Why Phrasebooks exists

Useful language support without depending on a permanent connection.

The product is designed for travel and practical situations. The phrase catalog, navigation, saved custom phrases, and speech controls remain in the downloaded file. Only the Translate button deliberately reaches the internet.

Each selected language pair is generated as one portable HTML file with practical categories and no installation requirement.

Browse, search, play, and organize the built-in phrases without a normal network connection after downloading the file.

Regional speech playback

Online playback requests the full regional locale, such as pt-BR or de-CH, and prefers an appropriate same-language voice when an exact match is unavailable. Actual online voice availability depends on the browser and device. Downloaded books prefer a matching device voice and can fall back to another available voice with a warning.

Bilateral online translation

When internet access is available, the Translate button detects which of the phrasebook’s two languages was entered and translates to the other.

Custom saved phrases

Save a translation into an existing category or create a personal category inside that local phrasebook.

Playback controls

Adjust speech rate, pitch, translation spacing, phrase spacing, and the voice playback order independently from the displayed columns.

Speech availability

The requested accent depends on the device.

Online phrasebooks request each language’s exact regional locale and prefer an appropriate same-language voice when an exact match is unavailable. Browser and device voice availability can vary. Downloaded books prefer matching device voices; if none exists, they still attempt playback with another available voice and clearly warn that the language is not correct.
